Tell us a little about yourself:
I’m Kiara, well Author K. Giles. I reside in Dallas, Tx and have a 5-year-old daughter, Kaidence. I am the creator of My KLOUD Blog (Kiara’s poetry is Loving, Open, Unique and Deeply written). I have been blogging for two years now and I attend speaking engagements whenever I am invited to speak. My desire is to inspire others through the transparency of my truth. When I am not creative writing, I am spending time with Kaidence, family and friends. I love completing DIY (do-it-yourself) projects and crafting. Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree in Professional Writing at Liberty University. My long-term dream is to one day open a creative writing center.
When did you fall in love with writing?
Middle School. I was in the 7th grade when I first started writing poetry. Over the years, I became better at it. I saw how much of a release it was for me. It became the best way I knew how to express myself. Writing was my outlet. I am sure most of my ex-boyfriends can tell you that they got tired of receiving hand-written letters and emails. Lol. I just use to write all the time, for everything. I told my family about losing my virginity in a letter. Haha.
Why did you make the decision to become a published author?
I really didn’t, it just happened. So many people believed in me and encouraged me to do it. To tell my story. I was referred to people, who referred me to other people, and they all encouraged me to just go for it. Once I started blogging and my followers started asking for more and wanting books, I knew I could do it. I would never let my readers down. So, I took that leap.
Who is your biggest supporter? And how?
My Mom. She’s very supportive and encouraging. She’s always trying to help me figure out ways to sell books and increase my social media presence.
Who/What is the biggest influence with your writing style?
My KLOUD followers. I feel that my story, my journey could help someone else. So, I write to be free. To heal. To vent. To live. And to love. You all influence me.
Tell me your favorite quote/song that gets you in the mood to write:
Love Songs. I am an R&B girl, through and through. I can listen to old Jagged Edge, Dave Hollister, Charlie Wilson, Monica (she’s my fav), John Legend and the list goes on. I can turn on my Pandora Let’s Chill or Ledisi radio and just let it play.
What genres do you write or wish to write?
I write poetry. I would love to try writing at least one romance novel. That’s my goal. I’m actually working on a romance novelette right now. I love fairy tales.
When it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?
Most definitely a night owl.
What does a writing session look like for you?
In my bed, on my phone. Lol. I most certainly write best at night. I can be headed to bed and things pop up in my head. I open my notes on my phone and have at it.
If you were to write a book about yourself what would you name it? Why? What celebrity would you use for your character?
Breakthrough after the Breakdown.
I have definitely had some tough times. Life has been up and down. Good and Bad. But I refuse to let it break me. I vow to keep going. Although we may experience many hardships, I refuse to give in to despair. And I will forever do my best to create a better life for Kaidence and I, even if I have struggled along the way. Everyday I am learning to take it all for what it is, one day at a time. To appreciate life as is, because you only get one. If I had to choose a movie title for my life story it would be Pursuit of Happiness. Like Chris Gardner, I will continue this journey knowing that things will get better and I’ll eventually experience genuine happiness.
I would choose Taraji P. She’s my female crush and favorite female lead in any movie. She is so pretty, and I love her personality.
What is one myth you would like to clear up about the literary world?
That not all authors are closed off and rude. I have met some dope ladies willing to help me. It’s quite a few authors that absolutely do connect with their readers, participate in their own reading groups and respond to emails. Humility still exists for most.
Describe your latest release in one word: Motherhood.
What are some of your goals as an author?
I always wish to accomplish being inspiring and encouraging. I share my voice so that others know that they have a voice too. I give advice the best way that I know how, through my writing. If one person, only one read my blogs or books, and take something from it, they heal or face their truths, my voice has served its purpose. I hope to promote self-love and happiness. I just want people to see that I am human, and I have been there. I get it. For one person to say, Kiara got through it and I can too. To be someone favorite author or a national best seller along the way wouldn’t hurt either.
What would you tell an aspiring author?
To follow your dreams no matter what. Go after your passion. If you want to write, then write. It may be a million authors, but none of them are you. Don’t get discouraged. Find your lane and drive in it.
What mix would you describe yourself as?
A little extrovert and introvert. I don’t mind being social, but I enjoy my alone time as well.
What can the reader expect from reading one of your novels?
Transparency and Truth. Authenticity. Real and raw happenings. Most importantly; growth, healing and love.
